HOW MANY CUPS?

COFFEE-

The beverage that one could argue has the biggest fanbase behind.

A drink whose consumers are usually willing to drink it every day, with caffeine levels and effects it can have on the body being the only reason one would limit their intake.

However, that limitation went straight out the window a century ago when a 28 year old, San Fransisco salesman decided to set a new world record, consuming a whopping 157 cups of coffee in one sitting. 1,256 ounces of coffee; the equivalent of 2 five gallon buckets.

157 cups in one sitting!

Albert Baker faced off with 11 other competitors for the possibility of winning a grand total of 50 dollars. That may not seem like a big prize to us now, but that $50 now roughly translates to $866! So we can cut the guy some slack. With the motivation of money and multiple other food and drink related competition wins under his belt, Baker began his record breaking journey.

Contest participants were allowed to take as many breaks as needed; there was no time limit. To win the contest, all you had to do was drink the most amount of cups for the day. It is reported that Baker ordered most of his coffee with cream and sugar. On occasion, however, he would switch back to plain, black coffee to give himself more variety.

After 6 hours and 20 minutes, Baker had finished a staggering 157 eight ounce cups of coffee, deeming himself a champion of both the competition and the world record.

TALK ABOUT A CAFFEINE ADDICT.

I personally wouldn’t advise drinking anything over the recommended daily limit of caffeine, but this is still a very impressive feat. Albert Baker still holds this record 100 years later.

Do you think you’d be brave enough to attempt this record?
